Diminished eyesight and eye fatigue it an inevitable part of aging. However, performing eye exercises can strengthen your eyesight, reduce eye strain, and relieve tension headaches. Follow these powerful exercises to sharpen and improve your vision so you can see for years to come.

Eye Exercises

Follow the 20-20-20 rule

Working on a computer for an extended period of time can cause digital eye strain, which may lead to headaches, eye discomfort, and vision problems. The AOA recommends following the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Position your computer screen at least 20 inches away to further reduce the risk of digital eye strain.

Palm your eyes

Palming is a basic vision improvement exercise intended to rest your optic nerve. To start, rub your palms together to create heat, and then place them against your eyes for five seconds. Repeat this exercise three times.

Focus on different distances

Another great way to strengthen and improve your vision is to focus on different distances by holding a pen at an arm’s length and slowly bringing it closer to your face. This will also give your eyes a much-needed break from your devices.

Massage your temples

Use your thumb knuckles to massage your temples in small circles. This will stimulate blood flow to the skin, muscles, and capillaries around the eyes, which can help drain excess fluids, de-stress muscles, and promote new cell growth.

Roll your eyes

Start by looking up and slowly circle 10 times both clockwise and 10 times counterclockwise.

Get some R&R

Adequate sleep is essential for eye health. It allows your eyes to rest, repair, and recover. While everyone is different, the National Sleep Foundation recommends 7 to 9 hours for adults.
