DR. BRIAN BIRD, MD
Dr. Bird was born and raised right here in the Salt Lake Valley. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor degree in Biology from Utah Valley University and then began working in the research and development department at ARUP Laboratories in Salt Lake City. During this time he primarily worked on “Next Generation Sequencing” technology to diagnose diseases encoded in human DNA and was awarded the National MSACL Young Investigator Grant for his contributions in diagnostic testing.
This blend of science and medicine propelled him on a path towards medical school at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) where he would discover his love for ophthalmology. He continued his dedication to research and was elected as a board member for the UNR medical clinic designed to provide free healthcare to the underserved. Dr. Bird completed his Ophthalmology residency as chief resident at Eastern Virginia Medical School in charge of other Ophthalmology residents and their training. He has been trained in the latest minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries and laser for glaucoma as well the latest in advanced cataract and refractive (LASIK, PRK, ICL) surgeries.
Dr. Bird has collaborated with specialists around the world to investigate better treatments for the patients he cares for.
He has published clinical research in collaboration with the Moran eye center related to optimizing the safety and efficiency in cataract surgery. Is a co-author for the book “Cataract – An Update on Clinical and Surgical Management” and for the book “Dry Eye diagnosis and therapy” both of which have been published internationally.
Dr Bird loves being near the mountains in Utah where he can raise his daughters doing the outdoor adventures they enjoy including hiking, canyoneering, rock climbing, snowboarding, mountain biking and boating. At Davis Vision Center he enjoys helping his patients see so they can enjoy the things they love with the people they love to be around.
DR. BRIAN DAVIS, M.D.
Dr. Davis is a Salt Lake City native. He attended the University of Utah where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in Electrical Engineering in 1985. As an engineer he developed an interest in lasers and worked with the research and development of lasers for eye surgery. This was eleven years prior to Lasik surgery becoming available to the public in the US. He then attended Medical School in St. Louis, MO where he also graduated Magna Cum Laude and was nominated to the medical school honor society Alpha Omega Alpha. He served an internship at LDS hospital in Salt Lake City and Ophthalmology residency at University of California, San Diego. He was one of the first Ophthalmologists in Utah to perform laser refractive surgery in 1996 and has now completed over 40,000 vision correction procedures.
As an eye specialist, he has been the president of the Summit/Wasatch county medical societies, medical director at LASIK Vision Institute, and director of the eye injury registry of Utah. Dr. Davis has also been a medical commentator on Fox and KSL TV as well as the Salt Lake Tribune and is involved in ongoing ocular research and the prevention of blindness. He is the current director of Ophthalmology at both the Riverton Hospital and the Jordan Valley Hospital.
DR. JASON HOLMES, O.D.
Dr. Holmes did his undergraduate studies at Ricks College, Brigham Young University, and Southern California College of Optometry where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Visual Science. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern California College of Optometry and was the recipient of the WICHE scholarship while attending there. Dr. Holmes has completed internships in Optometry at the Optometric Center of Fullerton, Omni Eye Specialists in Denver, Madigan Army Hospital in Tacoma, and the Optometric Center of Los Angeles.
After graduation, Dr. Holmes practiced at ShopKo Eye Care Center in West Jordan for 28 years. During this time, he also served on the Optometric Advisory Panel for ShopKo. This panel consisted of a small group of optometrists who write articles and counsel together to improve patient care. He also practiced with two glaucoma specialists at Clarus Vision Clinic in Murray before joining Davis Vision Center.
Dr. Holmes enjoys spending time with his family, particularly traveling with his wife and going on walks together. He enjoys being in the outdoors and fly fishing the many lakes and rivers in the Rocky Mountain West. Dr. Holmes and his wife have 3 daughters and 4 grandchildren.
DR. ASHLEY M. PHAN, O.D.
Dr. Phan was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. She attended the University of Dallas where she spent a semester studying abroad in Rome and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She completed her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry. There she was a member of the optometric honor society Beta Sigma Kappa and graduated Summa Cum Laude. During her internships, Dr. Phan learned to manage various ocular conditions including correcting refractive error, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and other ocular diseases. She is also trained to fit specialty contact lenses used to slow down the progression of myopia (near-sightedness) in children and young adults.
After graduation, Dr. Phan moved to Salt Lake City with her partner Chris to be closer to outdoor recreation and the mountains. She enjoys traveling, hiking, skiing, and playing the piano. Growing up in a large family of 7, she loves to spend time with her 6 nieces and nephews. Dr. Phan treats her patients as if they were her own family and looks forward to providing exceptional eye care at Davis Vision Center.
SUE STOTT
Sue Stott, ABOC, American Board of Certified Opticianry. Sue is the lead optician and optical manager at Davis Vision. Sue grew up in Kansas and is an avid Kansas basketball fan! (Rock Chalk Jayhawk) After graduation, Sue moved to the great state of Utah. Sue started her career as an optician in 1990, in Logan, Utah. Sue and her husband moved to Salt Lake in 1994 and raised four son’s. Sue loves to travel with her husband, fish, garden and bakes the best homemade bread! Sue started at Davis Vision in 2010 and has loved being a part of this fantastic team!
Because not everyone can qualify for Lasik vision correction, Sue can helps fit contact lenses and is passionate about finding the perfect frame and lenses for the best glasses. Sue is often found reading up on the newest lenses to offer for the best vision possible. Sue’s greatest compliment is having return patients come in year after year for their eyewear needs.
ROBYN NEAL
Robyn has been with Davis Vision Center since 2006. She loves people and will make you feel right at home. In addition to guiding patients through the LASIK process, Robyn has the responsibility to keep the office moving forward. Her passion for helping others and her attention to detail has helped Davis Vision grow from humble beginnings to one of the largest eye care centers in Utah.
When not at work, Robyn enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 boys. She loves getting outdoors to work in the yard or go camping. Robyn also loves visiting with friends as she always has a smile and thinks the best of others.
MELANIE JOHNSON
Melanie is the Billing Manager at Davis Vision. A Utah native, Melanie joined Davis Vision in 2013 and has been an integral part of the team. Melanie and her family love to go boating, camping, really anything that lets them enjoy the great outdoors! Melanie loves the beach and is an amazing mother of 4, and a slightly more amazing grandmother to 4 grandchildren. Melanie has a great passion for caring and helping others in anyway possible which is what makes her such a great addition to the Davis Vision family.
